RI Coworking Facilities Trying to Adapt to Coronavirus Realities, Fears and New Economics
Tuesday, September 01, 2020
In 2019, one of the hottest trends in business was coworking space designed for startups.
Then, the world changed and the last place you wanted to be was working in a group setting with dozens of people coming and going.
The State of Rhode Island has invested tens of millions to develop startup spaces in Providence with Wexford Innovation Center which is the home to CIC and in Newport with Innovate Newport.

Changing World - and Work Environment
Now, companies in with locations in Rhode Island like Sprout CoWorking and the CIC in the Wexford are changing, adding flexibility and cut pricing.
Sprout CoWorking announced a new partnership with the Rhode Island company Ocean State Shields (OSS) — a cleaning company in order to assure users of the space that the facilities are as safe as possible.
Sprout has locations in Providence and Warren.
"Now, interior areas at Sprout CoWorking will be treated electrostatically with a nontoxic and 'green' innovation, the OSS Disinfect & Protect Program. Using their innovative SD VO and SD 90+, a 99.999% effective hospital-grade disinfectant and a wide-spectrum antimicrobial coating respectively, this one-two punch thoroughly sanitizes all surfaces and then provides rugged, long-lasting surface protection afterward for up to a year," said Sprout in a statement.
"We're so pleased to be able to bring this globally deployed innovation to our home state of Rhode Island. The team at Sprout is taking a bold and effective step in helping to ensure the most healthful environment as members and guests return to the coworking environment. Our mission is to help reduce the risks associated with public health emergencies," said Allyson Cote, CEO and Cofounder of OSS.
CIC has also taken steps to minimize exposure but also has revamped offerings to startups.
CIC says its "new flexible membership options are perfect for mixed in-person and remote teams, fully remote teams with occasional in-person needs, or teams with work-from-home policies."
