The crucial February ratings period started just a couple of days ago which has Channel’s 10, 12 & 6 competing for your time in front of the tube. There will be plenty of ratings stories designed to grab you. Channel 12 will also be looking closely to see how their new anchor – Susan Roberts – does as she settles in as a replacement for 22-year veteran Karen Adams.

So while the “February Frenzy” of hype for viewers gets underway, here is a look at how your favorite shows are doing in different time periods throughout the day. This is a recent look at the numbers in late January hour by hour which show some interesting things for sure. We’ll look at ratings numbers. Each rating number represents about 6,300 households watching TV in the Providence market.

6am
All 3 Providence stations are an hour into their morning news programs at this time and Channel 10 is the clear winner, but look at Channel 12 – showing some nice numbers with anchor Patrick Little and newly appointed anchor Danielle North.

Channel 10 6.5
Channel 12 3.9
Channel 6 1.2

If your favorite network news morning show is Today – you are not alone. Month after month Today tops the ratings which also helps Channel 10 along the way. The newly announced CBS morning show team has its work cut it out.

Early Show (CBS) 2.72
Good Morning America (ABC) 1.35
Channel 6 1.2

10am
This is prime time for Regis and Kelly – they own the time period. What will happen when Regis is replaced? Some ratings erosion is natural. People love Regis so filling his shoes won’t be that easy. Some names tossed about are Ryan Seacrest and Anderson Cooper as possible replacements.

Regis & Kelly (NBC) 6.8
Let’s Make A Deal (CBS) 1.5
Gossip Queens (ABC) 0.4

11am
The Today show edges out the Price is Right but not by much. RI’ers not so hot on “The View” and even Jerry Springer hangs in there!

Today Show (NBC) 4.1
Price Is Right (CBS) 3.8
The View (ABC) 2.1
Jerry Springer (Fox) 1.0

Noon News

Channel 10 showing some strong consistent numbers at 7pm. In fact General Manager Lisa Churchville telling me the 7pm is one of the top performers of all the 7pm news shows across the country. FYI—Columbia, South Carolina has the highest rated 7pm newscast in the country. Channel 6’s 7pm news lags well behind Channel 10’s broadcast.

7pm news (NBC) 7.1
Wheel of Fortune (CBS) 9.3
7pm news (ABC) 2.4

For prime time shows, 8pm till 11pm, CBS lead prime time which helps Channel 12’s news at 11pm. Here’s a look at late night. Has the return of Jay Leno over Conan been a success? And looks like Niteline has lost its shine barely beating Family Guy.

11:30pm
Jay Leno (NBC) 3.4
David Letterman (CBS) 2.6
Nightline (ABC) 1.3
Family Guy (FOX) 1.1
