People on the Move: New Bank President, Appointments at Providence City Hall and More

Home Loan Investment Bank has named a new leadership team. According to Brian Murphy, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the bank, the moves reflect the bank’s growth in the consumer banking market and in particular, its growing branch network system.

“Having served the Rhode Island community for more than 60 years, we felt it was time to expand our leadership team to reflect the totality of bank offerings in the commercial, residential and automobile lending areas as well as to strengthen our connection to our customers in both the traditional and non-traditional ways,” said Murphy.

Eric Rose, President and Chief Operating Officer

Eric Rose has been named President and Chief Operating Officer, succeeding Murphy in that position. In that role, Rose will be responsible for assisting the Chairman and CEO in the overall administration of the Bank and the management of all daily Bank operations. He will serve as a member of the executive committee and various operating committees at the Bank.

Prior to joining the Bank in 2011, Rose served as Senior Vice President, Director of Banking Services at Admirals (Formally Domestic) Bank. Rose was responsible for the management of Deposit Operations, Core Banking Technologies, Deposit Collections, and Corporate Services. During his tenure at Admirals (Domestic), Rose held the position of Information Security Officer and was responsible for the management of Loan Servicing and the Call Center.

Rose began working at Home Loan in 2010 as Chief Information officer and in 2011, was promoted to Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer prior to his appointment as President. Rose holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Management and Technology from Syracuse University and a Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of Rhode Island. Rose is an active member of the Cranston community where he resides with his wife, Lilit and two children, Madelin and Samuel.

Jarred Burrell, Senior Vice President, Commercial Lending

Jarred Burrell has been named Senior Vice President, Commercial Lending where he will be responsible for maintaining and managing all aspects of the Commercial Lending Department. In that capacity, Burrell oversees the bank’s nationwide commercial lending operation specializing in SBA 7(a) and USDA Business and Industry loan programs. Burrell is responsible for credit risk management of the commercial loan portfolio and serves as the bank’s liaison with the Small Business Administration as well as the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency for all regulatory matters.

Burrell began his career in the financial industry in 2010 at The Jewelers Board of Trade located in Warwick, RI. He worked as a Business Analyst, providing commercial business financial statement analysis for the jewelry industry. Burrell joined Home Loan Investment Bank as a Commercial Loan Analyst in 2011, in which he serviced over 150 loans in the Bank’s commercial portfolio.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management with a concentration in Finance from Springfield College. Burrell is currently enrolled in the Stonier School of Banking and expects to receive his certification in 2023. He is a graduate from Pilgrim High School in Warwick, RI. Currently, Burrell resides in Somerset, Massachusetts with his wife, Lindsey and two young children, Trey and Mya.

Kevin Roche PHOTO: Home Loan Investment Bank

Kevin Roche, Senior Vice President, Residential Mortgage Origination

Kevin Roche has been named Senior Vice President, Residential Mortgage Origination. He will be responsible for the direct oversight of mortgage origination and expansion of mortgage origination volume. Roche also will oversee all Loan Production offices and is charged with recruitment to foster increased mortgage volume and is responsible for meeting the production goals of the Residential Lending Department.

A 25-plus year veteran of the mortgage banking industry, Roche has worked at Home Loan for almost 20 years, having started his career there in 1996 as a Loan Representative and Loan Officer Trainee. He was promoted to Loan Officer in 1997, and after becoming the top producer for six years, earned the position of Executive Loan Officer. In that role, he worked independently on loans and conducted sales training for new officers, and was named “Loan Officer of the Month” eight times.

Roche’s career continued to advance at Home Loan, culminating in a six-year tenure as Sales Manager and Director of Recruiting and Sales Training from 2003-2009, managing up to 15 loan originators, maintaining deals, and assisting in the processing of loans, before moving to Citizens Bank where he served as Premier Home Loan Advisor and Officer. Roche returned to Home Loan in 2016 as Vice President of Mortgage Origination and has steadily grown the sales team while maintaining a steady focus on purchase mortgages and building loyal referral partners in the local RI, MA and NH markets. Kevin is active with the Rhode Island Mortgage Bankers Association and is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island. He resides in Rumford, RI with his wife, Erin, and their 3 children and is active in the town’s youth sports organizations.

 

Mayor Elorza Makes Four Staff Announcements

Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza today announced the hiring of Providence resident Dr. Silas Pinto as the City's first-ever Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB). The DEIB Department was created in the City's Fiscal Year 2022 budget to design, drive, implement and support the City’s efforts to ensure diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging are shared and practiced principles in Providence.

"I am pleased to be able to amplify the work our City is already doing in the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion through the new DEIB office," said Elorza. "As the City's first-ever Director, I know that Silas' unique background and deep investment in Providence and our community make him an excellent fit to lead the City in this important work."

Pinto's career spans a number of roles in the education and psychology fields, serving most recently as a faculty member in the Department of Education at Tufts University. As part of his previous role, Dr. Pinto served as a co-director of the Diversity & Inclusion Leadership Graduate Program. Dr. Pinto received his Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of Rhode Island.

In addition to Dr. Pinto's appointment, Mayor Elorza has named Lizzie Araujo Director of Art, Culture + Tourism (ACT), Janesse Muscatelli as City Assessor and Emily Koo as Director of Sustainability.

"Lizzie, Janesse and Emily have been passionate and hardworking members of our team since their first days with the City of Providence," said Mayor Jorge Elorza. "I look forward to working with them in their new roles, all critical to the operations and vibrancy here at City Hall. I am confident that they will each go above and beyond to lead their teams and ensure that Providence is a City that works for all of its residents."

Araujo joined ACT in 2014 and became Deputy Director in 2019. Araujo has more than 30 years’ experience in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors, working in hospitality at Lupo’s on Westminster Street, serving as Associate Artistic Director at AS220 and managing The Black Rep and Fete Music Hall in Olneyville. Araujo earned her bachelor’s degree from College Unbound in August of 2021.

Muscatelli has been with the City of Providence since 2015, serving first as the Providence Deputy Tax Assessor and most recently as Acting Tax Assessor. Prior to joining the City of Providence, Muscatelli worked in the North Providence Assessor's office for twenty-one years, including roles as Deputy Tax Assessor and Acting Tax Assessor.

Koo, who previously served as the Office of Sustainability's Strategy Manager, graduated from Brown University with a B.A. in Environmental Studies in 2013. Her recent nonprofit experience spans the areas of affordable housing, urban agriculture, renewable energy and land conservation.
