NEW: U.S. Added 178,000 Jobs in March

The United States added 178,000 jobs in March, according to data released Friday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics.
Among the major worker groups, the unemployment rate for people who are Asian (3.7 percent) decreased in March. The jobless rates for adult men (3.8 percent), adult women (4.0 percent) teenagers (13.7 percent), and people who are White (3.6 percent), Black (7.1 percent), or Hispanic (4.8 percent) showed little change over the month.
According to the BLS, the gains were concentrated in healthcare, construction, transportation, and warehousing.

"Friday’s jobs report far exceeded expectations – economists forecast businesses would add 60,000 jobs last month and the unemployment rate would stay at 4.4% – and last month’s employment gains were the strongest since December 2024," according to CNN.
“I always tell people to look not just at the latest month, but to ask, what’s been the picture for the past three or four months?” said Gus Faucher, chief economist at PNC Financial Services, told the WSJ. “When you look at the broader picture, we’re adding jobs at a slower pace than a couple years ago, but we are adding jobs, and it’s enough to keep the unemployment rate steady.”
