NEW: Gas Prices Down Five Cents

Gas prices in Rhode Island fell 5 cents this week, according to AAA Southern New England.

A September 26 survey found the average price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline to be $3.67 per gallon, marking a five-cent decrease from last week and a seven-cent drop over the past two weeks. This decrease in gas prices mirrors the national trend, but the current price in Rhode Island is still 18 cents above the national average and $1.03 above the average price in Rhode Island at this time last year. Prices ranged 38 cents, from $3.49 to $3.87.

In comparison, prices in neighbor Massachusetts fell 7 cents over the past week and 10 cents over the last two. Prices of self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averaged $3.55 per gallon – only six cents above the national average of $3.49.
