NEW: Citizens Bank Says Debit Cards Declined Due to “Technical Issue”

Citizens Bank says that a technical issue - not a cyberattack - impacted some banking customers’ debit cards, causing them to be declined on Wednesday.

“We are aware that some customers experienced declined debit card transactions for a short period of time yesterday due to a technical issue. It has been resolved and we apologize for the inconvenience it may have caused,” Rory Sheehan, Citizens’ Head of Enterprise Communications, told GoLocal on Thursday.
When asked if it was a cyberattack, Sheehan said, “No, it was due to a technical issue.”
