About Hershgordon

According to WPRI’s website:

"Morey Hershgordon is the Sports Director at WPRI 12 and FOX Providence. He was named the 2021 NMSA Rhode Island Sportscaster of the Year.

He joined the 12 Sports team in June 2018 and previously worked in the department as a reporter then a weekend sports anchor.

In his first year, Morey quickly experienced the championship culture in New England. He covered the Red Sox World Series run, the Patriots on their way to winning Super Bowl LIII, and the Bruins’ journey to the Stanley Cup Final. Locally, he followed Providence College’s run to the Frozen Four and spent a week at the Little League World Series.

More recently, Morey covered PC men’s basketball team’s first Big East regular season title and was on the road with the team chronicling their historic run to the Sweet 16 for the first time in 25 years. Through his weekly half-hour show, PC Hoops With Coach Cooley, Morey landed the final interview with Cooley just hours before he resigned to take the job at Georgetown.

Morey also hosts a number of other long-form sports shows. In the fall, he leads the station’s regional weekly Patriots pregame show, New England Nation, as well as the postgame show, Patriots Wrap. On Fridays, it’s all about high school football and the Wendy’s Friday Night Blitz. In addition to PC Hoops, he hosts Bracket Breakdown, which airs during the NCAA Tournament in March.

In the 2021-22 season, he launched his College Hoops Column, which highlights the four local Division I basketball programs in the state.
Prior to WPRI, Morey spent one year as a sports anchor/reporter at WAOW-TV in Wausau, Wisconsin, where he was a finalist for Best Sportscast.

In addition to television, Morey has extensive experience as a public address announcer. Most prominently, he was the in-arena voice for The Basketball Tournament’s (TBT) Northeast Regional, Sweet 16, and Elite Eight games which were broadcast live on ESPN.

Morey received his Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism from Quinnipiac University."
