Major RI Contracting Firm Proposes 6 Story, 83 Unit Residential Complex on Gano Street in Providence
Monday, November 18, 2019
One of Rhode Island’s major contracting firms is seeking variances on height and parking to build an 83-unit residential complex on Gano Street in Providence.
The proposed project would be located adjacent to the much-debated Gano Street off-ramp. The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) has proposed closing and removing the ramp and many Fox Point and East Side businesses and residents have petitioned to keep the ramp open.
In October, a coalition of Providence neighborhood associations and business leaders are opposing RIDOT's plan to close the I-195 Westbound Gano Street off-ramp.

Leaders who signed onto the letter include State Representative Edith Ajello and Providence City Council Helen Anthony (Ward-2).
Businesses include Olympic Records, PVD Donuts, Silver Star Bakery, Taylor Interior Design, Inc. and others.
Proposed Project Requires Multiple Zoning Variances
H.V. Collins, the applicant, “is a Rhode Island-based General Contracting firm providing high-touch, client-first construction services across the greater New England region," according to the company website.
The proposed project would include 83 units and extend to 68 feet and 6 stories. There proposed project would include internal parking for just 68 spots. By zoning, the project is limited to 50 feet, four stories and would be required to have one parking spot per unit — 83.
H.V. Collins is seeking variances on each of these issues.
This application will be heard the Tuesday, November 19 meeting of the Providence City Plan Commission.
The meeting is scheduled for 4:45 pm Joseph Doorley Municipal Building, 1st Floor Meeting Room 444 Westminster Street.
