“Keep Tara Granahan” on WPRO in Afternoon Petition Starts Online
Friday, April 29, 2016
A new online petition was launched this week demanding that radio talk show host Tara Granahan retain her position as the host of WPRO's afternoon drive. Granahan is being pushed out of her slot for Dan Yorke, who presently is on air from 12 noon to 3 pm during the week on the AM station. Granahan is the only
The petition was started by listener Ed Doyle.
"Tara Granahan has more than earned her place at WPRO for the afternoon drive. She has brought many new listeners to the afternoon drive and is a breath of fresh air to Rhode Island and by moving her and putting someone like Dan Yorke in that spot will destroy WPRO as listeners will simply change the station. I will no longer listen to WPRO if she is replaced."

From 2011 to 2013, Granahan and Andrew Gobiel hosted the morning drive show, but they were replaced by now host Gene Valicenti. As GoLocal reported:
Popular WJAR television anchor Gene Valicenti has been named the new morning host on WPRO-AM and 99.7 FM from 6AM-9AM weekdays, the station announced today.
Valicenti will replace Tara Granahan and Andrew Gobeil. Granahan will stay on as an assistant program director for the station. Gobeil will not be retained.
The change in line-up was reported by GoLocal last week:
The guessing is over - the management at the Salty Brine Broadcast Center has named the late Buddy Cianci's replacement in afternoon drive.
The new line-up knocks Tara Granahan out of afternoon drive and replaces her with Dan Yorke in the 3 pm to 6 pm slot that Cianci held for years.
Granahan is not flipping with Yorke at mid-day, but gets pushed to the evening slot of 6 pm to 9 pm.
Taking over at mid-day is long-time producer and night time host Matt Allen.
John DePetro remains at 9 am to 12 noon and Gene Valicenti remains at morning drive at 6 am to 9 am.
The announcement was made to WPRO staff via an email from General Manager John Sutherland, WPRO's General Manager. He replaced Barbara Haynes who was fired a year ago.
