Cat Country Radio Station Sold

The popular Rhode Island radio station Cat Country has been sold.

 

The FM station, which is often the top-rated radio station in the Providence market, according to Nielsen. The Providence-metro area is the 44th largest market in the United States.

Hall Communication, which has owned the station for decades, has sold WCTK and its sister station, WNBH, to Red Wolf Broadcasting, pending FCC approval.

 

“I am thrilled to add Cat Country 98.1 WCTK, Big 101.3, and WNBH to our roster of New England radio stations and streaming platforms,” said John Fuller, Founder & CEO of Red Wolf, in a statement. “WCTK is an iconic station with tremendous reach, a powerful brand and an outstanding team.

 

This is just the latest shakeup in the radio industry.

 

Last week, GoLocal reported that Cumulus Media announced it was filing for bankruptcy protection — the second time the company has filed in the past seven years.

 

In the Providence market, Cumulus owns, WPRO-FM, WPRO-AM, The Wolf, Lite-105, and the AM station, The Score.

 

Cumulus is led by CEO Mary Berner. She led the company when it filed for bankruptcy in 2018.
