Bruins Crush The Ratings Too
Friday, June 17, 2011
If broadcasters could make one wish – it might be that every week or even every month there was some kind of playoff or championship game going on.
Proof of that is just how well the Bruins scored in ratings Wednesday night on Channel 10 here in Providence. Crazy numbers really.
Prior to the start of the Stanley Cup game at 8pm, Channel 10 had a 4.5 rating airing the show EXTRA at 7pm. Each rating represents about 6,200 households watching TV so about 28,000 households watching that show. So let’s fast forward to the end of the Stanley Cup game.

That equals about 160,000 households in the Providence metro area who were tuning in to the game. This market no doubt is one of the highest watched rating areas for the B’s series outside of Boston. Meantime, Channel 12 for the 10pm to 11pm time period with its programming had a 3.6 rating. Channel 6 was even lower with a 1.3 rating.
Because of the high rating numbers for the game, Channel 10 also did well in it’s 11 o’clock news and won the news slot as well.
Even without the hockey game as a lead in, 10 has always has a strong performance in the 11pm news.
Now, the series is over and the repeats are in full bloom, what is next?
