The Skippers will look to erase a 1-0 series deficit tonight in game two.

After waiting another day to start their best-of-three Division I baseball title series, Hendricken and North Kingstown didn't disappoint in game one. The defending state champion Bishop Hendricken prevailed in a stingy 3-0 defensive effort to secure the series lead.

Pitcher remains undefeated

Hendricken ace right-handed pitcher and this year's Rhode Island Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year, Mike King, was dominant in game one against a solid Skippers lineup to preserve his undefeated record on the year. The senior Boston College commit tossed a complete game four-hit shutout, silencing North Kingstown's typically loud bats.

North Kingstown's lineup is highlighted by Chris Hess, who belted a monster three-run homer in game two of the Skippers semifinal series against East Greenwich to secure a spot in the state finals for his team.

Hendricken made it to the finals after a hard-fought 2-1 series win over seventh-seeded Johnston. After the two teams traded games, Hendricken outlasted the Panthers in game three 5-2 to clinch a spot in the title series.

The Hawks have a chance to repeat as state champions tonight at 6:30pm at McCoy. If the Skippers pull out a victory, the two teams will play a decisive third game at 6:30pm on Friday night.
