URI and Head Coach Dan Hurley received big news today when class of 2014 point guard Jarvis Garrett, one of the top remaining players available in the class and URI's top recruiting target, verbally committed to the University for next Fall.

ESPN recruiting analyst Adam Finkelstein broke the news on Twitter, and it was quickly confirmed by Garrett, who began retweeting poeple congratulating him on his decision.

Garrett plays at Notre Dame Prep in Fitchburg, Massacusetts and is a native of the Milwaukee area.  URI beat out Garrett's hometown school (Marquette) and Indiana for his services.

GoLocalProv has been following this story closely all season.  In January we reported that Garrett was URI's top target in recruiting, and our own Scott Cordischi was among the first to report URI as one of Garrett's 2 finalists.

Garrett figures to compete for playing time immediately next season, as he and Biggie Minnis are currently the only point guards on the roster for 2014-15.  He joins Junior College commit Earl Watson in the Rams' 2014 recruiting class.

URI has one scholarship remaining for next season, and the presumed top target at this point is Rokas Gustys, a Lithuanian Center who plays at Oak Hill Academy in Virginia.
