NEW: John Lombardi Wins House District 8
Tuesday, September 11, 2012

Lombardi ran in a four-way Democratic primary for Mayor in 2010, finishing second to Angel Taveras.
Kimzey, a progressive activist, had the support of Providence Mayor Angel Taveras as well as several progressive groups (namely Fight Back RI and Planned Parenthood), but finished second.
Tarro struggled to build his campaign after cruising to victory in his first run two years ago. The lawyer has long been criticized in his neighborhood for allowing the demolition of the former Grove Street School, a property he owns. Mayor Taveras fired Tarro from his position as an assistant city solicitor because of the troubles with the property.

Congratulations to John Lombardi, a really stand-up, nice man!
But in fairness to Mr. Tarro, any mention of the Grove Street School demolition should include these facts:
1. The school was bought by the Tarros from the City with no strings attached, when the City didn't want it any more;
2. The school was forced into a local historic district years later without the owners' consent (Thom Deller's doing);
3. Simultaneously, the school's twin, over on Manton/Woonasquatucket (I forget which, near the Stop & Shop) was left out of that historic district because its owners had more pull with Deller. That school was demolished to build a store (a CVS, I think) soon thereafter.
Yeah - the demolition was "illegal" - because creeps like Thom Deller wrote/write the laws around here.

Bravo, John!
The faux Progressives have been dealt a major setback -- although not as grand as the onrushing fall of David Cicilline.
John, my politics are to the left of Che Guevara's. Yours are in the center. But somehow you and I manage to agree on many core issues. I respect you and value our friendship.
Congratulations.
P.S. -- You probably should apologize to Frank for stealing half his thunder!
