Police Escort Providence Mayoral Candidate out of Debate
Thursday, July 22, 2010
Democratic candidate for Providence mayor Chris Young was escorted out of last night's debate by police after he refused to remove a statue of the Virgin Mary that he brought with him. Young spent about an hour arguing with debate organizers and police about his right to have the statue with him, delaying the start of the debate. He claimed that his freedom of speech and freedom to express his faith were being violated.
