According to the Assistant Deputy Fire Chief Timothy McDaniel, the department received an emergency phone call at 7:40am. The fire, he suspects, was started in the kitchen as a stove fire, but they have not yet confirmed its origin. He says that it took over 2 hours for his team to get the fire under control because not only did it spread up to the other floors, but it was also inside the walls of the building, trapped in the two feet between the brick exterior and internal structure. The building, particularly the restaurant, suffered from "substantial damage" because of the water, smoke, and fire as well as multiple walls they were forced to knock down.

The restaurant is located on South Water Street, next to the histroic Old Stone Bank. which was built in 1854.
