Glenn Laxton, 40 plus year career in media in RI

Family members of Glenn Laxton announced that Veteran TV reporter Laxton died on Wednesday.

He was an anchor, reporter, assignment manager for WPRI TV 12 in Providence, RI for more than 40 years. Laxton was highly respected and as both a journalist and a historian.

He was an Emmy-award winning journalist. Laxton produced the long-time series “Not to Be Forgotten,” which chronicles unsung heroes of RI.

Veteran TV Anchor Patrice Wood of WJAR-TV - the rival station to Laxton's WPRI, posted to Facebook, "A perfect gentleman. Rest in peace. To Glenn's loving family, my thoughts and prayers are with you."

He was a director go the RI Heritage Hall of Fame and a member of the Blackstone Valley Historical Society. The multi-talented Laxton, wrote, “Hidden History of Rhode Island: Not to Be Forgotten Tales of the Ocean State."

"I remember John Chafee, then a US Senator, getting ready for a major announcement at a press conference saying, 'Oh look Glenn (Laxton) is here and now we can get started.' Laxton was a tremendous professional and had a real appreciation for history and context," said Josh Fenton, CEO of GoLocalProv.
