LIVE: Camp BraveHeart Helps Families Cope With Loss of Loved Ones

On August 3, Gilmore will head Camp BraveHeart run by Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Rhode Island for her 11th consecutive year.
Gilmore says children dealing with the loss of a loved one can find solace at Camp BraveHeart, the free annual summer camp that’s designed to help kids ages 4 to 17 cope with grief.
“Getting to meet all these people is like a family,” Gilmore says, “it feels really healing to have all of those people around you, and to have all of that support and to know I have a place I can come where I can feel normal.”
Over the course of two days, campers get to be kids, taking part in traditional camp activities like swimming, archery, kayaking rock, climbing and storytelling.
The camp also has grief counselors on hand to provide emotional support and proving opportunities to memorialize loved ones through art, music and theatre.
Camp BraveHeart is located in North Scituate.
Hope Hospice Rhode Island is a non-profit that offers comprehensive medical, emotional and spiritual care for people facing serious illness.
