SENE Film Festival Opens This Week in Providence
Tuesday, April 05, 2011
It's Providence's arts triple-threat.
The SENE Film, Music & Arts Festival opens April 6 and features 14 artists, 10 live performances and 20 film programs including 70 short and feature-length films.
Wednesday: Kick-off party
It all gets rolling on Wednesday night with a party and art exhibit at PeaceLove Studios from 6-11pm, featuring an artists' reception, a film showcase of shorts, and four live music performances. $10 admission includes hors d'oeuvres and dessert by Chelo's, wine, and beer from Magic Hat. Plus, bring a non-perishable food item for the RI Community Food Bank and you'll snag a ticket to any SENE festival film screening (one per person).
Wednesday-Sunday: Screenings
If screen time is what you're after, check the full schedule, here, for programs at Cable Car Cinema at 204 South Main Street, Fat Belly's Pub (upstairs) at 125 Canal Street, the Chace Center at the RISD Museum of Art, 20 North Main Street, and The Spot Underground, 15 Elbow Street. Insiders know that the screenings often sell out, so plan to arrive early.

Sunday: Closing Music, Poetry, & More Film
The Spot Underground hosts an afternoon farewell and celebration of the festival from 2-7pm, with a $5 suggested donation covering refreshments and musicians and poetry. The festival closes with no better send-off than It's a Bash!, the latest documentary from Rhode Island wunderkind David Bettencourt, who will be on hand to answer questions. The film is an in-depth look at the seminal RI punk rock band Neutral Nation. It's a no-miss event.
Fundamentally, clear your calendar. It's that good.
