It's the potentially devastating final effect of Irene.
Many Rhode Island residents without power for more than 24 hours lost all refrigerated and frozen food items amounting to millions of pounds of food and millions of dollars lost. This "hidden" cost of the storm hit low income households especially hard.
The Rhode Island Community Food Bank has a network of food pantries making emergency food available to those is need. The list can be found on their Web site. Go to: Food pantries.

In order to get this special SNAP allotment, recipients must complete this FORM and bring it to their local DHS office within 10 days of the date of loss.
