Hamilton Star Odom Jr. Coming to Newport Jazz Festival

Leslie Odom Jr.

Award-winning star of Broadway’s Hamilton Leslie Odom Jr. will make his debut at the Newport Jazz Festival this summer. 

He will be at the festival on Friday, August 4. 

Odom Jr. released a self-titled jazz album last year and has been touring in support of it ever since.

His ten-song album features classics like “Look for the Silver Lining,” “Nobody Knows You (When You’re Down and Out),” “Cheer up Charlie,” and much more. 

Leslie Odom Jr. 

Odom, 35, was born in Queens, NY, grew up in Philadelphia and was a musical theater prodigy. 

He appeared in Rent on Broadway when he was 17 while going to Philadelphia's High School for Creative and Performing Arts.

After graduating with honors from the School of Drama at Pittsburgh's Carnegie Mellon University, he acted on television as Sam Strickland in TV's Smash for two seasons and had a recurring role as Reverend Curtis Scott on Law & Order: SVU. 

Odom recently filmed a remake of Murder on the Orient Express with a cast that includes Dame Judi Dench and Johnny Depp. The movie is due in theaters this November.

The 2017 Jazz Festival 

The 2017 festival is set to take place from Friday, August 4 to Sunday, August 6. 

The festival will show off over 50 individual jazz ensembles on four stages including performances at the International Tennis Hall of Fame and Fort Adams State Park.
