NEW: Providence Named Top Ice Cream City—Travel and Leisure

Talk about delicious news: Providence has been named the #2 Best City For Ice Cream in the latest Travel + Leisure America's Best Cities Poll, and raved about in the July 2013 issue of the popular travel magazine.
Given that Providence is T+L's overall No. 1 eating-and-drinking city, according to readers, it may not be surprising that the capital city has taken the #2 spot for ice cream. Savannah, GA, was named the #1 destination for ice cream overall, followed by Providence at #2, and Nashville, San Francisco, and San Diego, and #3, #4, and #5, respectively. Portland, ME, was the next-highest-ranking ice cream city at #6, followed by Boston at #8. No other New England cities made the list.
Providence's frozen faves
Travel + Leisure's Katrina Brown Hunt raved about Providence's frozen delights. "Foodies will love the macaron ice cream sandwiches at Ellie’s Bakery, an offshoot of renowned Gracie’s," she said, "while coffee lovers will appreciate the ice cream (coffee bean, coffee Oreo, coffee crunch) at Three Sisters. To try the city’s highly ranked street food, check out PVD Pops, a bicycle-operated pushcart selling pudding pops in flavors such as pumpkin chocolate chip and pineapple basil."
