You've always heard that there was no such thing as a free lunch but what about a free glass of wine or beer? If you’re on a budget and also love the finer things in life, wine tastings are a great way to learn more about grapes and try a delicious variety of vino - the same applies to beer. Like the previews at a movie theater, a little three ounce up will give you just enough of a taste to make witty judgments and compare notes with friends.

Tastings are a perfect activity before dinner or going out and if you plan your weekends accordingly, you can try half a dozen different wine tastings over the weekend—or just frequent ones are your local liquor store.

Here’s a breakdown of where to get some free grapes each and every weekend:

The Pre-Weekend: Thursday
Bottles on the East Side hosts weekly wine tastings from 3:30 to 7:30. 141 Pitman St, Providence.

The Weekend Kicks Off: Friday
For some swanky sips and high-end wines go to Eno from 4:30-6:30 on 225 Westminster St, Providence. If you’re in or around Narragansett, try Pier Liquors on 29 Pier Market Place from 4-7. In the West Bay? East Greenwich's, top wine shop, The Savory Grape, offers wine tastings each Friday from 5-8. 1000 Division Road East Greenwich. If beer is more your style, head back to Bottles on 141 Pitman St, Providence for a weekly brew tasting, 3:30-7:30.

Keep It Going: Saturday

If you didn’t get your fill on Saturday, Eno also hosts wine tastings from 4-6 every Saturday, as does Pier Liquors in Narragansett (4-7) and The Savory Grape (different time on Saturdays, 3-6pm).

Weekday special tastings on the horizon:

This Friday, Madeira Liquors on the East Side is offering samplings of  “Smoking Loon” wine from 5-7. 174 Ives St, Providence. On Wednesday, June 8, Wayland Square Fine Wines is hosting “French Wines with Yannic,” who is an expert in grapes from France from 6-10.  210 Wayland Ave, Providence.
