poll: Who is RI’s Favorite Forecaster?  Take Our Exclusive Poll

Tuesday, December 06, 2011

There are many things we take seriously around here.

Low numbered license plates.
Hot Wieners.
Getting a table fast at Twin Oaks Restaurant.

And also on that list is our weather.
We are whacky about it and for good reason since just yesterday we had nearly 60-degree temps in December.

The blizzard of 1978 is the reason why many of us watch every track of cold fronts – warm fronts etc. GoLocal’s Meteoroglist John Ghiorse – trusted by many as the weather authority was perhaps the leading voice and face delivering accurate weather information to people which helped to elevate him to the “weather god” status he enjoys.

But who is the most popular TV meteorologist on TV today?

We’ll check in at all three Providence stations and let you decide.

Please vote below for your favorite weather man and be sure to check to back to see who is the state’s “Favorite Forecaster.”

Channel 10’s Mark Searles:

Mark is the station’s Chief Meteorologist and started at the station in 2008. Before that he spent 13-years at Channel 6. Little know RI fact: Mark started forecasting as an intern alongside Channel 10’s John Ghiorse in the early 1980’s. Mark knows the science of weather but also really knows how to deliver a forecast so it is easily understood.

GoLocalTV's John Ghiorse:

John is the dean of all meteorolgists and the only guy with a "factor" named after him - the Ghiorse Factor. Led Channel 10's weather team for decades and has helped to build GoLocal into a model for online news. Little do folks know that John is a Harvard grad - another example of his humility. No one may be more accurate - no one.

Channel 12’s Tony Petrarca:

Tony has a long history with Channel 12. He started at the station in 1987 and has been there ever since. Tony is the Chief Meteorologist for the station and is a native Rhode Islander. Like Mark Searles, Tony has mastered the “art” of explaining weather science.
