Style Tricks To Go From Daytime to Party Time

I hear those sleigh bells jingling as well as my cell phone ringing, which means the holiday season is here! It is a jolly time and that means parties, soirees, cocktail hours and more get-togethers than shopping days! If you do not have the time to go home and make a transformation from your day look to night we have a few tricks to go from work to wow in a snap!

Get in Line

It is one product that works unbelievable wonders: black eyeliner. This handy little beauty tool can make you look like you just stepped off the runway instead of just stepping out of your cubicle. To sultry up a sophisticated evening look, line your lashlines (both upper and lower) to make eyes pop. If you want to be super daring, line the inner part of your eyes on both top and bottom. The top is tricky so use a specialized brush like the Arced Liner Brush #21 from Smashbox ($20, New Leaf Hair Studio) and a smudgy type liner like Stila Smudge Pot ($20, Facing Thayer). Need something lower maintenance? We love Jane’s self-sharpening Mineral One Liner ($5, drugstores).

Turn Up the Volume Tip: Smudge the liner for a smoldering, smoky effect. Simply use your ring finger and blend.

Red Sky at Night

It’s been a long day and the idea of dressing up and playing nice makes you want to run for the nearest couch and multi-flavor popcorn bin. Hold your horses, sister! A lovely shade of red lipstick can turn that frown into a foxy grin within seconds. Red lips say “I’m ready to party!” and can be worn without any other makeup (though we do recommend some mascara!) Go bold with a full-on red like Belle Noir by Julie Hewett ($23, The Apothecary Newport) or get your stain on with Tarte Natural Lip Stain with Lipsurgence Technology in Lust ($24, Sephora).

Turn Up the Volume Tip: Wearing hair back brings attention to your lips so go for a loose chignon or a low ponytail to look festive and flirty.

Glow For It

After a day of meetings and running around, your complexion may show signs of slowing down. Never fear, luminizing products were made for this very purpose. Lighten up with a dab of Nars Cream Blush in Enchanted ($26, Nordstrom or Sephora) to get an ethereal glow. Add some color with Ava Anderson Non-Toxic Blush in Pretty in Pink ($18.95), which is made with minerals to add some shimmer.

Turn Up the Volume Tip: Add luminizer to your brow bone to open up the eye area and extend the glowy look to your entire face.

Hair on the Run

Bad hair days can happen anytime during the work day so tackle those problems head on with some tools to tame that mane. Mane Tame by Blow NY ($22, Gloss & Glamour) is a pomade that makes styling short, medium or long hair a breeze. Whether you want to tame flyaways and frizz or seal an updo in place, a little of this stuff goes a long way. If you want to rock an updo, accessorize it with some holiday flair: accessories. A cute jeweled headband or floral hair band can take your look up a notch without much effort! Head over to Target which has an affordable selection that looks tres chic.

Turn Up the Volume Tip: Do not be afraid to get out of your comfort zone and go from straight to curly or vice versa. Be daring, it's only one night!

Spray the Day Away

Before the hate mail comes in about women (and guys!) who bathe in their fragrance, take heart. There are fabulously refreshing fragrances out there that invigorate the senses and leave you feeling clean, not covered. Kiehl’s Cucumber Roller Ball Fragrance ($26, Nordstrom) is packed with essential oils and freshen you up for a night out. Or try DKNY Be Delicious ($72, Ulta) for a sparkly apple sensation.

Turn Up the Volume Tip: Rather than spraying on your neck and wrists, dab onto these areas for a more subtle scent. Also dab behind ears, in the crook of your elbow or behind the knees.

Do the Superwoman

A phone booth is nowhere in sight but you still have the option to transform from grind to grand. One of the best ways to do this is with footwear. Grab those heels and glitz up any office garb; add a cute blazer or fitted cardigan and you are ready. There is no need anymore to bring an entirely separate outfit as long as you have a few accessories at the ready. Bangles, bracelets, earrings, cuffs, it all works! Get thee to Alex & Ani for eco-friendly jewelry or wallet-friendly Forever 21, Kohl’s or TJ Maxx for exceptional accessories.

Turn Up the Volume Tip: Wear one statement piece and one to two accompaniments. Most of all, be yourself and wear what makes you feel fabulous.
