Salon KG uses some old-world ambiance to create the perfect environment for blushing brides.

The loss of a childhood friend touched Rhode Island natives Kevin and Kristin Greene so deeply that they began to reassess their entire lives. Both felt they weren't doing what they really loved in life and this questioning and search for meaning, led the couple straight to the doorstep of a new venture, Salon KG.

Located in charming Pawtuxet Village, the Greene's found the perfect place for their new enterprise in a historic Victorian home on vibrant Broad Street. The former Huldah Chase house features just the right ambiance for an elegant and serene beauty salon. The hardwood floors and oak paneling recall a bygone era and is nothing like the clinical and whitewashed day spas and hair salons that dot the local environs. “We’re trying to create something different,” says owner Kristen Greene, “an elegant place for women to come and be pampered in an old world setting.” A vintage cast iron stove offers the perfect spot to store the salon's towels and rubs elbows with the special “stand behind” shampoo sinks that blend perfectly with the dark wood and vintage curved windows. A private room with a decorative fireplace is the salon's pedicure space with chairs overlooking an old fashioned porch and beautifully kept grounds, which include a koi pond and waterfall.

Those grounds are large enough to help with the bridal business that the Greene's specialize in. “Kristin has already handled over 90 brides, helping them with makeup, hair, and styling,” says Kevin. The gleaming pocketed French doors close off a private room just for the happy bride and her wedding party, where they can be privately made up, have their hair and nails done, and then head out to the pretty lawns and gardens for photographs. And Kristin knows the small details it takes to soothe her jittery brides with wall hooks to keep veils clean and wrinkle-free, to sewing kits for unexpected mishaps.

But make no mistake–Salon KG is not just a beauty destination for brides but also for women who want to grab quick manis or lunchtime blow-outs. The clever reception desk, which is made from the old staircase balustrade pieces, is already buzzing with appointments and activity.

The Greene's complement one another perfectly–Kevin is a 20-year veteran in loss prevention for Macy's, where he gained skills in management, finance, and business. Kristin is a trained makeup artist, working for high-end department store brands such as Clinique and MAC. She has also styled for television and magazines and will handle the more artistic facets of Salon KG.

This venture may have been given birth from the terrible loss of a good friend, but the legacy is the gift of this creative and determined couple's decision to finally live their dream. It shows in every skill they have acquired, their terrific achievement together, and in every nook and cranny of their elegant new business of making women feel and look beautiful.

Salon KG is located at 2144 Broad St., Cranston. To find out more about this brand new hotspot, check out their Facebook here.
