All in the details…

Welcome to the inaugural edition of GoLocalProv’s fantastic new source for all things Weddings and Celebrations!  I am so thrilled to be part of this exciting source of information and inspiration!

As we enter the official “Engagement Season” and everyone travels home for the holidays, most of you, now that you’ve picked your person, start the search for the perfect venue.  We are so fortunate to have so many beautiful, unusual, special and iconic venues right here in Rhode Island – which can make the search overwhelming, not to mention highly competitive when it comes to dates.  Here’s some things to keep in mind:

Just like your significant other, you need to find a location for your celebration that speaks to both of you.  Are you looking for the perfect waterfront venue – remember that there are many to choose from, with locations ranging from Newport, Warwick and both the East and West Bay!  Are you a little more edgy or urban – Providence has a number of interesting and special locations available for your special day.  Does rustic and natural appeal – check out the many gardens and farms that are available.

Once you’ve chosen your venue, choose your date.  I know this sounds a little counter-intuitive, but weddings are not restricted to Saturdays!  If your “date” has been taken at the venue you’ve fallen in love with, explore options for a Friday or Sunday celebration.  The benefits associated with both Friday and Sunday weddings range from lower costs associated with the venue (ie room rentals and/or food and beverage minimums) or the chance to “share” an upgrade you may not be able to afford on your own, like a tent or specialty tables.

Another thing to consider is an off-season date.  Most venues offer preferred pricing and reduced food and beverage minimums, which of course is a bonus to you!  Not only do the venues reduce pricing, but many of the other vendors you’ll be working with do the same – which lets your budget go even further.

About that budget…Did you know that the average cost of a wedding in the US, according to a recent survey is $35,329 – and in Rhode Island it’s, wait for it…$52,328!  The survey, conducted by one of the top wedding sites, developed that number by surveying over 13,000 real couples.  Don’t be frightened by that big number for Lil’ Rhody, remember that’s an average, encompassing the entire state.

One of the best things that happens once you choose your venue, is the help and expertise you’ll receive from your event specialist.  They’ve got their finger on the pulse of what’s hot and happening, and that, along with the relationships they’ve developed with all other professionals that are a part of your day will be an excellent source of information and inspiration!

I’ll be here to keep you up to date on the most current trends as you plan your special day!

Next time – Color trends for 2018!
