The 2010 Boston Celtics are a coach’s dream. In an era where offense sells, they win by playing defense. It may not be as glamorous to be known as a great defensive player or team and defensive stats don’t jump off of the page at you like points, rebounds and assists. It can lead to many good things like stops, easy buckets in transition and, most importantly, wins. Every coach at every level could use this team as an example of the importance of playing defense and what can be accomplished by playing it well.

-While the Yankees appear to be the team to beat, the Red Sox deserve a lot of credit for playing as well as they have without Josh Beckett and Jacoby Ellsbury.
-Trainer Brian McNamee continues to bury Roger Clemens in the court of public opinion. His latest assertion to federal prosecutors is that Clemens paid him for performance enhancing drugs through his nonprofit organization.
-Tiger Woods has been #1 in the world golf rankings for the last five years but could lose that ranking to Phil Mickelson at this week’s US Open at Pebble Beach.

-Tom Izzo made the right decision to stay at Michigan State.
-Think what you want about WEEI’s Gerry Callahan but he is one of the most talented broadcasters and writers I have ever seen.
-Ditto for the Boston Globe’s Bob Ryan whose opinions are worth reading or listening to.
-I don’t know about the rest of you fathers out there, but I doubt very much that I would allow my daughter to sail around the world alone at age 16.
