RIC Announces Spring Sports MVPs
The awards were announced at the annual spring sports banquet at the Quonset Point Officer’s Club on Monday.
The MVPs are as follows:

Junior Mike Webb (Pawtucket, RI) was named the baseball team’s MVP. Webb has posted a 5-0 record with a 2.48 ERA and 88 strikeouts in 61.2 innings of work. He has a remarkable 6-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio this season. His 88 strikeouts are tops in the Little East Conference, while his 2.48 ERA is third-best in the league and his five wins tie him for fifth in the league. He has been in double-digits in strikeouts three times this season, including a season-best 16 punchouts in the team’s, 2-0, win over Utica on March 14.
SOFTBALL
Senior pitcher Briana Gough (West Warwick, RI) was named the softball team’s MVP. Gough has been outstanding both at the plate and in the pitching circle for the Anchorwomen. At the plate, she has posted a .426 batting average with 21 runs scored and 23 RBI. She also has nine doubles, one triple and three home runs. As a pitcher, she is sporting a 10-7 record with a 4.14 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 99.2 innings of work. She recorded her first career no-hitter in the team’s, 6-0, win over Worcester State on April 11.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Senior goalkeeper Julia Eaton (Cumberland, RI) was named the women’s lacrosse team’s MVP. Eaton played in 14 games, starting all of them. She posted a 6-8 overall record to go along with a .529 save percentage and a 12.36 goals against average in 840:00 of action. During her career with the Anchorwomen, she played every minute of every game in goal, tallying 3,293:00 in 55 games. She also established a new school record with 795 saves for her career.
MEN’S TENNIS
Senior Chandler Scott (Ashaway, RI) was named the men’s tennis team’s MVP. Scott has posted a 9-4 mark at No. 2 doubles and is 5-8 at No. 2 singles for 9.5 points on the season.
MEN’S OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD
Senior Shamar Spruill (Providence, RI) was named the men’s outdoor track & field team’s MVP. Spruill was the N.E. Alliance and Little East individual champion in both the hammer (53.97m) and the discus (44.97m) at the Alliance Championship on April 27. Spruill registered a season-best distance (58.03m) in the hammer with a first place finish at the Southern New Hampshire Penmen Relays on April 13. He hurled a season-best distance (47.19m) in the discus for a second place finish at the Sean Collier Invitational on April 20. Spruill recorded a season-best distance (12.96m) in the shot at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational on April 6.
WOMEN’S OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD
Senior Margaret McCaffrey (East Greenwich, RI) was named the women’s outdoor track & field team’s MVP. McCaffrey was the N.E. Alliance and Little East individual champion in both the 800m (2:24.28) and the 1,500m (4:54.92) at the Alliance Championship on April 27. She recorded a school-record time in the 800m (2:16.64) at the University of South Florida Relays on March 23. She also established a new program record in the 1,500m (4:48.68) at the Bryant Invitational on March 30 and broke her own school record in the 3,000m Steeplechase (11:43.99) at the Southern New Hampshire Penmen relays on April 13.
