Hassan was drafted by the Red Sox in the 20th round of the 2009 MLB Draft.  He played college baseball at Duke after starring at BC High School as both a hitter and a pitcher.

Ryan Lavarnway was placed on the Disabled List by the Red Sox, and needing a right-handed bat, the team opted to bring up Hassan.
