PC's Diallo scores his 1,000 point

The Providence College Friars dropped a 76-67 home game to the Georgetown Friars at the Dunk. The Friars drop to 13-10 overall and 3-7 in the conference.

The first half of the Providence College Friars game with the Georgetown Hoyas at the Dunk was an old school “rock fight.”

The Friars shot just 30 percent from the field and 1-9 from behind the 3-point line.

The Friars seemed to be unable to get any offensive flow going and the Hoyas were not much better, but a three at the buzzer by Georgetown gave them a 34-27 lead going into half-time.

This game was meant to be a revenge game — the Friars had drooped a painful double-overtime loss at Georgetown in January, 96-90.

Diallo Gets 1,000

Alpha Diallo scored 22 points and grabbed six rebounds. He was the only Friar in double figures.

Diallo became the 50th player in program history to score 1,000 points after connecting on a three-point basket with 12:56 to play in the second half. Diallo was the only Friar in double-digits.

Second Half

The second half was a slight improvement for the PC offensively.

In the second half the Friars shot and improved 44 percent, but the 3-point shooting was just 3-13.

Providence trailed, 57-45, with 9:00 remaining in the second frame.

Both sides traded baskets over the following 10 minutes to bring the game to 70-59 (2:52), in favor of the Hoyas. Diallo, Reeves and Jackson all connected on three-point baskets after having just one triple in the first 28 minutes of play. Providence brought the game within eight in the final minute but could not close the gap.

Providence will travel to New York to take on the St. John's Red Storm in Madison Square Garden on Feb. 9 at 12:00 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on CBS Sports Network.
