Patriots Handle Bears 74-48

If the Brown Bears never play the George Mason Patriots again, it will be too soon. Last night the Bears lost to the Patriots 74-48 in Fairfax, Virginia in the Dick’s Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-off. Their only other meeting with the Patriots was a 89-52 loss at George Mason in 2008.

The story of the game last night for Brown was missed shots. Brown shot just 33% from the field (18-54). They were 20% from three (5-25). Part of that poor shooting percentage was due to a solid man-to-man defense played by the Patriots. But part of it was also due to a lack of offensive execution by the Bears and some missed open  shots.

Brown had no players in double figures as senior John Harris led the Bears with 9 off the bench. Sophomore Josh Biber scored a career-high 7 while junior Andrew McCarthy also netted 7. Freshman Christian Gore scored a career-best 6.

Ryan Pearson led George Mason with 23 points. The Patriots shot 48% from the field (28-58). They dominated the paint outscoring Brown 42-14 down low. They also controlled the glass outrebounding the Bears 42-30.

The good news for Brown (2-3) is that they’ll have a chance to get back in the win column today at the Patriot Center when they wrap up play in the Dick’s Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-off against the (0-4) Monmouth Hawks. The game tips off at 5pm.
