Former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, arrested and charged in the murder of Odin Lloyd on Wednesday, is being investigated in connection with a 2012 double-murder in Boston.

Around 2am on July 12th, police officers responded to a shooting on the corner of Shawmut Avenue and Herald in Boston's South End. They found a BMW by a traffic light, and three men shot inside. The men in the front seat, identified as Saifro Furtado and Daniel Abreu, were already dead upon the officers' arrival. The third man managed to survive the ordeal. Witnesses reported the attackers driving a silver or grey SUV with Rhode Island license plates. Police are investigating Hernandez's involvement with the killings.

Hernandez was arrested, arraigned, and charged yesterday with the first-degree murder of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd, a linebacker for the semi-pro Boston Bandits. Lloyd's death was ruled a homicide after his body was found by a jogger in an industrial park approximately a mile from the athlete's North Attleborough home. Hours after his arrest, the New England Patriots announced their release of Hernandez, stating, "We realize that law enforcement investigations into this matter are ongoing. We support their efforts and respect the process. At this time, we believe this transaction is simply the right thing to do."

Hernandez has been no stranger to the law over the years, and has had a lot of trouble keeping his nose clean. He was involved in several altercations as recent as earlier this month, and has failed multiple drug tests. Additionally, Hernandez faces another huge legal problem through the reports of a civil lawsuit being filed over a February shooting that caused a victim to lose sight in one eye. The player is being held without bail in the Bristol County House of Corrections. If convicted, he could face life in prison without parole.
