Moses Brown: Freshman Sets National Record in 800M at Indoor Meet

A Moses Brown freshman has set the national record for freshman girls in the 800 meters indoors, according to the Providence, Rhode Island preparatory school.

Moses Brown announced Saturday that freshman Sophia Gorriaran’s 2:03.98 in the 800 at a meet at Boston University this weekend set the freshman girls indoor record for the distance. 

“Congrats Sophia! We are so proud of you,” said Moses Brown in announcing the record.

Record Set at Open Meet 

Gorriaran placed 12th in the event at the Boston University “Last Chance Invitational” — beating out not high school runners, but post-collegiate club runners as well as collegiate athletes. 

The event was won by Quebec University medical student Maite Bouchard in 2:00.93. 

The top ten finishers were less than three seconds apart.
