The Providence Friars certainly aren’t playing the toughest non-conference schedule to start the season. Far from it. But they are taking care of business against the cupcakes and are now (4-0) on the season.

Last night, the Friars defeated Prairie View A&M 78-62 at the Dunk in opening round action of the Cancun Challenge. Today they board a plane in Boston and head to Cancun for their next two games starting Tuesday against LaSalle.

It’s the first time since the 1994-95season that Providence has started the season at (4-0). But don’t be fooled by the numbers. The Friars have yet to play a significant opponent having also defeated Dartmouth, Yale and Morgan State. However, in their defense, all that they can do is take care of business against the teams on their schedule and that is what they are doing at the moment.

Last night, three PC players finished with double-doubles. Marshon Brooks (22 pts, 10 reb), Vincent Council (13 pts, 10 assists) and Bilal Dixon (14 pts, 14 reb) led the Friars to the easy win over the (1-4) Panthers.

PC dominated the glass against Prairie View as well out-rebounding the Panthers 51-29.

Tuesday’s game against the Explorers (4:30 pm ET) will be the first one played away from the Dunkin’ Donuts Center for the Friars albeit on a neutral court. Their first true road game comes 11 games into the season when they visit Boston College on December 8th.
