Julian Edelman

Day 9 of Patriots training camp wrapped up on Sunday it was highlighted but the return of Julian Edelman off of the PUP list. Edelman was in pads for the first time in this camp and was a full participant in everything except the scrimmage.

"A lot of significance, you know you have to get your football legs back in shape and its good to have this extra weight on, its about 7 pounds so its good to get out here and run around with the pads and adjust to catching a ball with the shoulder pads, the helmet, the face mask. Going out there and trying to get as tired as possible with the pads on so you can get used to the games and stuff," Julian Edelman said after practice.

When pressed further on his status, Edelman said he was just "Day-to-Day right now."

Working with Brady

While he did not take part in the scrimmage, he and Tom Brady did run routes on the other field while Brady was not on the field for the scrimmage. The two ran redzone plays with Brady hitting Edelman in the corner and over the middle in the back of the end zone.

They also ran plays just outside the redzone.

"Anytime you get one on one time with any quarterback its very valuable. Today me and Tom got to throw a few and that's always good to kinda see where we are at, see our timing, and have him see my mechanics, me see his mechanics, me catch his ball. It will be good to go out here and do that with multiple guys," Edelman said.

Or course, it will be Jimmy Garoppolo in the first four games.

"It's important to get ready with Jimmy, with Jacoby with Tom, with all the other receivers, all the guys on special teams, get in there and do stuff with coaches," he said.

The Summer of … Edelman?

Julian Edelman had an eventful summer. A birthday party, surgeries and now his ex. girlfriend having a kid. But Edelman said it was all good.

"It was pretty much the same, just different circumstances," he said.

But about those home runs he hit during a batting practice session at Fenway Park?

Edelman joked, "I was just dropping bombs you know, but its football season now."

The Patriots open up the preseason on Thursday when they host the New Orleans Saints. It seems unlikely Edelman will play.

Kick off is set for 7 p.m.

Tom Brady

On Friday, Brady went 25 for 25 during a scrimmage but on this day, playing with essentially the backups he went 14 of 25 with a touchdown and an interception.

He also took his first hit of the training camp on a collision with safety Cedric Thompson on a play in which Brady scrambled out of the pocket for a decent gain.

Jimmy Garoppolo

Jimmy Garoppolo went 15 of 24 in the scrimmage with a touchdown pass to Bennett.

As training camp has gone on, it appears Garoppolo is becoming more vocal and taking on more of a leadership role.

This week will be fascinating as the Patriots practice with the Saints before their preseason game on Thursday.

Julian Edelman

The highlight of the practice was the return of Julian Edelman from the PUP list.

Edelman was in pads for the first time but did not take part in the scrimmage.

While Garoppolo was on the field, Edelman and Brady went to the other field and ran a few routes, both in the redzone and just outside of it.

Danny Amendola remains on the PUP.

The Scrimmage

For the second practice in a row (they were off Saturday) the Patriots split up the squad into two teams, Team Garoppolo and Team Brady.

This time, Garoppolo had the ones with both Gronkowski and Bennett as well as Aaron Dobson and Chris Hogan on is side, while Brady's main targets were Chris Harper and DeAndre Carter with a little bit of Brandon Bolden mixed in.

Garoppolo's best play came on his touchdown pass to Martellus Bennett in the corner of the end zone to give his team the lead after Brady's squad jumped out to a 6-0 advantage.

However, Tom Brady would have the last laugh in this scrimmage leading his team down the field in what was essentially a 2-minute drill to close the game. Brady found Carter in the end zone for a touchdown. A.J. Derby then ran in a 2-point conversion on the last play of practice to give team Brady the 11-10 win.
