East Greenwich Wins Third Straight DII Boys Lacrosse Title

The East Greenwich boys lacrosse team won their third straight Division II state title Sunday afternoon, defeating South Kingstown 11-2. With the victory, the Avengers kept their unbeaten streak alive, dating back to the 2011 season.
Colin Waitkun was named the game's most outstanding player, netting four goals in the first half alone.
The Avengers came out of the gates flying, scoring six goals in the first quarter, and taking a 9-0 lead into the half.

Matt Cruise finished the game with three goals and had both of East Greenwich's goals in the second half, while South Kingstown's Chad Mitchell scored the only goals for the Rebels. Colin Bernier also chipped in with two goals for the Avengers, while Jack Payette and Ryan Trinque scored one apiece.
East Greenwich had the clear experience advantage in the game, with 15 seniors on their roster and nine that have been at the school for four full years, many of whom have won multiple championships while suiting up for the Avengers.
The Avengers will look to keep their unbeaten streak alive and win their fourth straight state championship next spring.
