Choh's Double-Double Leads Brown Past Columbia 72-66

The Brown University Bears men’s basketball team edged the Columbia University Lions 72-66 behind a double-double from Tamenang Choh on Saturday night at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Brown’s campus.

Choh’s double-double included 18 points and 10 rebounds.

"That was a good basketball game. We won it down the stretch with great defense. We pride ourselves in being a good defensive team and we certainly showed it in the final five minutes,” said Brown head coach Mike Martin.

The win improves Brown to 9-8 overall and 2-2 in the Ivy League.

Columbia falls to 6-14 overall and 1-3 in the conference. 

Brown Edges Columbia

After leading 36-28 at the half, Brown found themselves trailing 62-58 with just over five minutes to play in the game on a layup by Columbia’s Mike Smith.

From there, Brown would take over.

Freshman Dan Friday tied the game at 62 on a three-pointer, while sophomore Jaylan Gainey gave the Bears a 64-62 lead on a dunk with 2:47 left to play.

On the defensive end, Brown’s David Mitchell got the Bears a possession back on a jump ball, and then recorded a steal with 15.6 seconds left.

In the meantime, Brown knocked down 8-of-10 free throws in the final minute, including two by Brandon Anderson, to secure the win.

Anderson had 14 points for Brown.

Next Up

The Bears return to action on Friday, February 7 when they host Dartmouth.

Game time is set for 7 p.m.
