The University of Rhode Island men’s basketball player David Green will not be eligible to play during the 2023-24 season as the NCAA has denied his waiver request. Green is a two-time transfer, so he needed a waiver to avoid sitting out a year. He can continue to practice with the team and will be eligible to play for URI during the 2024-25 season. He retains two seasons of eligibility.

Green is a 6’7” shooting forward who the Rams hoped would add depth to their frontcourt.

The URI Athletic Department released the following statement from Coach Archie Miller.

“While we are certainly disappointed with the NCAA’s ruling, we were aware that this was a possibility,” Rhode Island head coach Archie Miller said. “David and his family have worked exhaustively with our administration to provide the NCAA with as much documentation as possible, and we feel a strong case was made for him to receive a waiver.

“David understands his situation and knows he is a big part of what we are doing. He is a leader within the program who will continue to have a significant impact over the long term at Rhode Island.”

Out of high school, Green committed to Hofstra University and played for one year there. He then transferred to Louisiana State in 2021, where he had a strong season coming off the bench. He was limited to six games in 2022-23 due to injuries.
