Obama Urges Support for Raimondo in Video Message

Michelle Obama has recorded a video message to Rhode Islanders on supporting Gina Raimondo for Governor.

Obama states, "Gina can only do this vitally important work if we help her win this November. In the weeks ahead, we need to do everything we can to elect Gina as the next governor of Rhode Island. Barack and I will be with Gina every step of the way and we hope you'll join us."

Gorbea Unveils Third Television Ad

Democratic nominee for Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea, has launched her third television ad, "Catching On”.

“I’m excited that voters share my enthusiasm to bring increased levels of transparency to government. I will ensure elections are fair, fast and accurate and will make sure that small businesses can easily start and succeed,” said Nellie Gorbea.

“But just as important, I will make sure that government works for people and will run the office with the highest ethical standards,” continued Gorbea.

The Rhode Island State Council of Churches Urges a NO VOTE on QUESTION # 1

The Rhode Island State Council of Churches has called for a no vote on Question #1.

In a press release, Rev. Dr. Don Anderson stated, "We understand but deplore the temptation to enhance state revenues by expanding gambling at Newport Grand and urge Rhode Island voters to resist this temptation.  Twin Rivers already provides more than 4,500 slot machines, in addition to table games, and Newport Grand offers more than 1,000 gaming machines.  Enough is enough.  Rhode Island already has compromised its integrity by promising falsely our most vulnerable citizens 'a dream for a dollar'.  The reality is that predatory gambling is significantly more responsible for a family’s financial nightmares than the bliss of dreams. "

Filippi on Taxation of Social Security

Independent House District 36 candidate Blake Filippi has issued a statement regarding changes to the taxation of Social Security, other retirement and military pensions.

“One of my first acts upon taking office will be to submit legislation that will eliminate Rhode Island’s income tax on Social Security benefits,” said Filippi.  “In addition, this legislation will also eliminate the state tax on the first $15,000 of other retirement income and the first $20,000 of military pensions.”

Governor of Indiana to Speak at Providence College Republican Reception

The Providence College Republicans and the College Republican Federation of Rhode Island will be hosting a reception with Governor Mike Pence (R-Indiana) on October 23 at Providence College.

The reception will take place from 5-6:30 pm in the Great Room of the Ruane Center for the Humanities at Providence College. Pence will be speaking about student activism and the political leadership.
