RI GOP Announces First Inductees to RI Republican Hall of Fame

The Rhode Island Republican Party will hold their first annual induction Ceremony and Dinner to honor the Hall of Fame class.

"We are very excited to commence this annual event to recognize the men and women who have contributed their talents and energies to the betterment of our citizens across the state and the Republican Party," said Chairman Brandon Bell. 

 The ceremony will take place on Thursday, June 9 at Alpine Country Club from 6:30 p.m. - 9 p.m.

The 2016 Honorees are as follows: 

  • Lincoln Almond
  • John H. Chafee
  • Susan Farmer
  • Bradford Gorham
  • Nancy Mayer
  • J. William Middendorf
  • Eileen Slocum
  • Arlene Violet

"These Republicans served our state with honesty, integrity and compassion. Throughout their years of service, they have advocated for principles that enhance Rhode Island and create opportunities for all its people. Their service has ben a credit to the party and their efforts are worthy of recognition," Bell added.

The Inductees 

Lincoln Almond - Almond was Governor from 1994 to 2002 and oversaw economic development in the state, specifically Fidelity Investments constructing a facility in Northern RI. 

John Chafee - Chafee was Governor from 1962 to 1968 and was an important part of creating Rhode Island's public transportation administration and advocating for environmental and conservation causes. 

Susan Farmer - Farmer was Secretary of State and was the first woman to be elected to statewide office in Rhode Island. She served two terms and later directed Rhode Island PBS. 

Arlene Violet - Violet was the firs female Attorney General in the United States, serving from 1985 to 1987. Her main focus was organized crime, environmental issues, and victim's rights. 

Eileen Slocum - Slocom is the RI National Committee Woman and executive director. 

J. William Middendorf - Middendorf became involved with the Republican Party in 1964 and has attended every national convention ever since. 

Nancy Mayer - Mayer served two terms as state Tresurer and modernized Rhode Island's cash and pension management systems. 

Bradford Gorham - Gorham served as the Rhode Island House Republican Minority Leader, State Chairman, candidate for Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General.
