Rep. Walsh Says Drinking is Rampant at RI State House
Wednesday, March 08, 2017
First year State Representative Moira Walsh of Providence told talk radio WPRO AM that the biggest surprise of first few months in office is the amount of drinking at the State House. “The drinking. It is the drinking that blows my mind. You can not operate a motor vehicle when you’ve had two beers but you can make laws that effect people’s lives forever when you’re half in the bag? That’s outrageous!,” said Walsh.
The claim is not a new one. For any journalist working in the building the news was not a surprise. Later in the day, Walsh had tempered her comments. She has been at the center of a number of issues since being elected including being dismissed from her job in a Providence restaurant for reportedly talking too much about politics.
She represents the Smith Hill area of Providence -- the heighborhood that houses the State House. Larry Berman, spokesman for Speaker of the House of Nick Mattiello declined comment on Walsh's comments.
