Nirva Rebecca LaFortune is the winner of the special Democratic primary for Ward 3 in Providence.
LaFortune won 1,147 votes to beat Mark Santow who won 339 votes. Daniel Chaika finished third with 223 votes.
She will now face Republican David Lallier Jr. as well as independent Chris Reynolds in the general election.

LaFortune was born in Haiti, but grew up in Providence before going to college in Philadelphia.
She currently works at Brown University.
