RI Twist on 'Twas the Night Before Christmas

Not a politician was stirring, they were all on vacation.
They looked at their presents while they wore their Christmas sweaters
Thinking a check is okay, but cash would be better.
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
Hoping dad wouldn’t spend Christmas with the feds.
It’s been a rough year, but he doesn’t belong in jail,
At least there’s a chance, those kickbacks will pay his bail.
When outside the house there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.
Parked in our driveway was a new Mercedes Benz,
And out popped Linc Chafee, with all of his friends.
He walked into the house and wished our family good health,
Apologizing for the taxes and promising to spread the wealth.
He pledged to have answers, because he’s not a rookie,
Then he chugged our milk, Bob Walsh ate the cookie.
As fast as he came, the Governor-elect was gone,
Off to meet the next family, for it was almost dawn.
The jury’s still out on Linc, yet to make a call,
But one thing’s for sure: No more Don Carcieri is the best gift of all.
