Independent candidate for governor Lincoln Chafee yesterday renewed his call for blocking the state's deal with former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling's video game company, after a recent report revealed that 38 Studios only needed 250 jobs instead of the originally required 450.

Chafee said a "serious representation" had been made to taxpayers about the value of the deal. “This is just another example of an insider deal that does not serve the best interest of our citizens," Chafee said.

“It is unacceptable that the (Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation) is trying to ram through an ill-advised deal to back an unproven startup with no product and no sales – all at the 11th hour of an administration” Chafee added. “I urge that this deal be halted immediately.”
