The President of the United States was in Rhode Island to give a speech at RIC Friday morning about women and the economy. The President arrived in Rhode Island on Thursday night, landing at T.F. Green airport and staying at the Omni Hotel. Obama is the first President to stay overnight in Rhode Island in the last 50 years since John F. Kennedy.

THURSDAY NIGHT

Air Force One lands at T.F. Green Airport

The President landed at 9:05 p.m. and stepped out of the plane, Obama was greeted by Governor Lincoln Chafee, U.S. Senator Jack Reed, U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, U.S. Representative Jim Langevin, U.S. Representative David Cicilline and the Mayor of Warwick Scott Avedisian. 

Obama Departs for Omni Hotel in motorcade

After chatting with the dignitaries for a few minutes President Obama departed in a motorcade at 9:18 p.m., headed for the Omni Hotel in Providence.

At 9:40 p.m., President Obama's motorcade arrives at the Omni Hotel. 

FRIDAY MORNING

Doors open to Public at RIC 

The doors opened to the public at 7:30 a.m. Friday morning at Rhode Island College's Murray Center. Only those with tickets were allowed in to hear The Presidents speech. According to the state fire marshall, there were about 1,800 people in attendance.

President Obama delivers speech at Rhode Island College

President Obama addressed a full house at RIC, just after 11:20 a.m. Friday morning. The President addressed the progress made by the U.S. economy, as in the last two quarters it has grown at a 4.1 percent pace. That makes it the fastest six month period of growth in over ten years. He added that he wants to see a minimum wage increase, promoting equal pay for equal work, and better child care. 

Prior to his remarks, The President participated in a roundtable discussion with working parents, small business owners, students, faculty and staff at Rhode Island College. He started off the round table talking about Halloween costumes.

After giving his speech, the President gets back in his motorcade and departs for T.F. Green Airport. On his way, Obama stopped at a Greggs Restaurant in Providence for a hamburger, fries and a Death by Chocolate cake with Gina Raimondo.

President Obama arrives at T.F. Green Airport a little after 12:45 p.m. on Friday, Air Force One is waiting for him, stairs down and door open.

Air Force one departed T.F. Green Airport just after its scheduled time of 12:50 p.m. and is headed back to Washington D.C.
