Tyrai Golden Sykes, 35, of West Warwick, passed away unexpectedly on January 17, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Shayna (Sebastian) Sykes.

Born in Salisbury, Maryland, he was the son of Tyrone (Yvette) Sykes of Mardela Springs, MD, and Melissa Camper of Minneola, FL. He was the brother of Tyrone (Naha) Sykes of Clarksville, TN, Tyron (Andrea) Sykes of Newport News, VA, Paul Morgan of Norfolk, VA & KeAisa Ames of Greensboro, NC.

Besides his wife, parents and siblings, Tyrai leaves behind his bonus children, Isys, Arya, and Aeryz Sebastian-Mercado, who he loved with all his heart. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews & cousins.

In his early life, Tyrai attended James M. Bennett High School, Wicomico High School in Salisbury, Maryland and graduated from Rogers High School in Newport, RI. In his youth, Tyrai excelled in many sports, including baseball, football, and his favorite, basketball.

Recently Tyrai found a career he loved as a shipfitter at Electric Boat in Quonset, RI. While Tyrai enjoyed his career as a shipfitter, his passion was making his family and friends laugh, put a smile on their face and helping them in their times of need. Family was most important to him and was the motivation behind everything he worked for. Tyrai loved going to the thrift shop, as he would never pay full price for anything if he had a choice. He loved going to the beach just to listen to the waves. Tyrai’s favorite game to play was Spades. One of his favorite past times was to go bowling with his wife and family. Tyrai was best known for his hilarious sense of humor, contagious laugh and incredible bear hugs.

A Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at 2 pm at Avery-Storti Funeral Home, following calling hours, which will be held from 12-2 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tyrai’s honor to Goodwill of Southern New England, Inc. 432 Washington Avenue, North Haven, CT 06473.
