North Kingstown Police Officer Brittany L. Dougal Dies at 29

Brittany L. Dougal, of Cranston, RI, formerly of Danvers, passed away on Wednesday, March 4th, 2026. The cherished daughter of Steven and Tina (Bertone) Dougal. Brittany was 29 years old.
Born in Beverly, Brittany was raised and educated in Danvers, graduating alongside the class of 2015. She would go on to attend Framingham State University where she would study and receive her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and Communications. Brittany was a stellar athlete, having played softball throughout her childhood as well as in high school and college.
For many years, Brittany worked security at McLean Hospital and later at Mass General Brigham providing support to medical personnel assisting with the welfare of patients. On December 19th, 2025, Brittany graduated, second in her class, from the Rhode Island Police Academy and was sworn in to the North Kingstown, Rhode Island Police Department on December 22nd, 2025. She proudly served the community with honor and dignity.

Brittany was predeceased by her grandfathers, Francis “Sonny” Bertone and Denis Dougal, and her cousin Jennifer Elliott. She is survived by her parents, Steven and Tina (Bertone) Dougal of Danvers, her twin sister, Stephanie Arsenault and her husband Austin of Burlington, her niece and goddaughter, Mazie Arsenault of Burlington, her brother Spenser Dougal of Danvers, her maternal grandmother, Madeleine Bertone of Danvers, her paternal grandmother, Pauline Dougal of Danvers, her uncle Richard Bertone of Worcester, her aunt Dianna Elliott and her husband Gerald of CT and her cousin Christopher Elliott of CT. Brittany also leaves behind many friends and colleagues as well as her beloved cats Kique and Epifania.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours to be held at O’Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 167 Maple St., (Rte 62) DANVERS, on Friday, March 13th, from 4 to 8 PM. Her Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 14th, at 11 AM in the funeral home. It is with deep sorrow that the North Kingstown Police Department announces the loss of Officer Brittany Dougal, who tragically died by suicide after battling mental illness.
Officer Dougal graduated from the Rhode Island Municipal Police Training Academy, 145th Class (2025-II), on December 19, 2025. During her time at the academy, she earned the respect of the academy staff for her dedication and heart, graduating second academically in her class.
Following her graduation, Officer Dougal was sworn in as a North Kingstown Police Officer on December 22, 2025, and began the Field Training Evaluation Program. In the short time she served with our department, her field training officers recognized her commitment and the promise of a successful career.
Our department mourns this loss. Brittany’s passing is deeply felt by her family, friends, academy classmates, and all her brothers and sisters in law enforcement.
