MaryAnn (Biagetti) Cherkas, of North Smithfield, Dies at 77

MaryAnn (Biagetti) Cherkas, 77, of North Smithfield, died August 26, 2021, at home.

She was the wife of Paul Cherkas whom she married on December 26, 1972. Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Alvaro and Lauretta (Sylvestre) Biagetti.

Mrs. Cherkas was the Head of Phlebotomy and Outpatient Testing for Kent Hospital and also worked for Lab Services, Warwick. She was a member of the Ladies Sodality at St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Woonsocket, where she also taught Sunday School and served as a Kitchen Lady.

Along with her husband, Paul, she is survived by her son, Paul Lozeau and his wife, Kerry, of North Smithfield; a daughter, Paula Samborsky and her husband, Michael, of North Smithfield; a brother, Raymond Biagetti of Woonsocket; and five grandchildren, Paul, Alexandra, and Marissa Lozeau, and Bailey and Zachary Samborsky. She was the sister of the late Robert and Richard Biagetti.

Her funeral will be held Tuesday, August 31, 2021 beginning with visitation at 9 am in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket, followed by a service at 11 am in St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 74 Harris Ave., Woonsocket, RI 02895.

Burial will follow in the parish cemetery on Farm St. in Blackstone.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
