Former Owner of Ocean Lure Concepts, William (Bill) Degnan III, Dies at 53

William (Bill) Degnan III, 53, of North Smithfield, passed away at the Hope Health Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence on April 23, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was the loving husband of Patricia (Trish) for almost 30 years. He was the son of William Degnan, Jr., and Jeanne Paquin. He is survived by two sons, William Degnan, IV, and Nicholas Degnan, and sisters, Christine, Colleen, Elizabeth, and Jeanne, and seven nieces and nephews.

Bill studied computer science at Northeastern University and business at Bryant University. He owned and operated Ocean Lure Concepts in Smithfield for twenty years before becoming the production manager of National Vans in North Attleboro, MA. Bill spent many years fishing with his father as co-captain of the sportfishing vessel, Ocean Lure. He was an avid golfer and a perennial face at the Hopedale Country Club. He was also a member of the Sayles Hill Rod and Gun Club.

Billy loved spending time with family and friends and was involved in many seasons of youth sports. He spent years cheering on the Patriots when they couldn’t get a win before sitting back and enjoying the years of dominance. Billy was a keen problem solver with a strong analytical mind. He loved to learn something new and never came across a project he couldn’t conquer. 

Calling Hours will be held Tuesday, May 4, 2021, from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the Keene-Brown Funeral Home, 445 Greenville Rd., North Smithfield.

Due to the COVID 19 Pandemic, masks, and social distancing guidelines will be applied.

A Celebration of Life is being planned and will be held at a later date, TBD.
